Il giudizio del coach

Riceviamo e, con  molto piacere, pubblichiamo (con la traduzione) il racconto di Gonzalo Crivello sul clinic che si è tenuto qualche settimana fa.

"Marzo 19 e 20, 2016

Clinic ad Anzio

In December Giovanna Gangitano, Ivo Gatulli and I started talking about the development of the local Snipe fleet. I was fortunate to meet them at the AVB (Associazione Velica di Bracciano) where we had a long conversation about the need for clinics in the area. During this meeting I told them my plan of moving to Italy in June of this year and that I was going to be in Rome in March.

Both Giovanna and Ivo did all the legwork, found the powerboat and the venue, provided the marks

and found the participants. The clinic had a perfect number of 5 boats in participation and the level at the beginning of the clinic ranged from beginner to advanced.

We arrived on Saturday March 19^th to a great day; the weather was just perfect, about 15 degrees Celsius and a building breeze out of the northern quadrant. The morning was filled with tuning and tricking the boats out to make sure every one was on the same page as we were going to do mostly speed testing later that day. The fleet launched their boats at 11:30a and returned to the dock close to 4:00p.

On the water there were many things pointed out about the set up of the boats and after about an hour and a half everyone was on the same page speed wise.

At the return to the dock more work on the boats was needed. Such as lengthening vangs, changing lines and positions of the lines, jib leed cleats needed to be re set, spreaders change and reset, typical snipe boat work I must add. It was an afternoon full of boat work before the debrief video debrief.

After the debrief I was treated to the typical Italian hospitality, we started the night with the apperitivo, spritz for me, followed by a wonderful dinner which was followed by a passegiatta and the gelato.

The following morning greated us to another perfect day. It was a bit hotter and with a perfect 8 to 10 knots of breeze. We did a lot of boat handling followed with 4 races. Everyone managed to win a race, which was a great thing to see. After 4 hours on the water we returned to the club to pack the boats and have the final debrief. Rules were discussed in the debrief among other topics. I must say that the knowledge of the rules from the group ranked hi but more study must be done on the topic. I must say that all of us must study the rules constantly.

I have thank not only Giovanna and Ivo but also all the participants as they were very engaged, open and entertaining. We had a great weekend and all made a great deal of improvement. I really hope to see everyone at my return in June to continue working together.

One last note, please remember that cooperation in the only road to improvement and wining is not the goal but the consequence of hard, methodical work.

"A Dicembre, Giovanna, Ivo ed io abbiamo cominciato a parlare della crescita della flotta Snipe locale.

Ho avuto la fortuna di incontrarli all’AVB dove abbiamo avuto una lunga conversazione sulla necessità di allenamenti in zona.

Nel corso di quell’incontro ho comunicato loro il mio progetto di trasferirmi in Italia a giugno e che sarei stato a Roma in marzo.

Loro hanno fatto tutto il lavoro, trovando il gommone e il circolo ospitante, le boe e I partecipanti.

Il clinic ha avuto il numero perfetto di 5 barche partecipanti e un livello all’inizio del clinic distribuito in una fascia da esordienti ad avanzati.

Il 19 marzo è stata una bella giornata: le condizioni climatiche perfette, intorno a 15° e un vento crescente dal quadrante nord.

La mattina è stata dedicata alla regolazione delle barche così da mettere tutti nelle stesse condizioni per gli speed test pianificati per il prosieguo della giornata.

Le barche sono andate in acqua alle 11,30 e tornate a terra intorno alle 16.

Durante la sessione in acqua si sono evidenziati molti aspetti della messa a punto e dopo circa un’ora e mezza erano tutti settati su velocità simili.

Al ritorno a terra si è reso necessario ulteriore lavoro, come  allungare il vang, cambiare le scotte ed i punti di scotta, regolare le crocette, Insomma il tipico lavoro di regolazione di uno Snipe

E’ stato un pomeriggio pieno di lavoro sulle barche prima del debreafing con la visione dei video.

Dopo il debriefing ho goduto della tipica ospitalità italiana, abbiamo cominciato la serata con un aperitivo  (per me spritz) seguito da una magnifica cena e poi passeggiata e gelato.

La mattina seguente ci ha regalato un altra giornata perfetta. E’ stato leggermente più caldo e con un vento perfetto tra 8 e 10 nodi.

Abbiamo fatto molte manovre seguite da 4 regate. Tutti sono riusciti a vincere una regata e questo è un buon segno.

Dopo 4 ore in acqua siamo tornati al circolo per caricare le barche e fare il breafing finale.

Tra gli altri argomenti abbiamo discusso anche di regole.

Ho giudicato buona la  conoscenza delle regole nel gruppo dei partecipanti, ma su questo aspetto è necessario ulteriore studio. Devo dire che ognuno di noi studia il regolamento costantemente.

Devo ringraziare non solo Giovanna ed Ivo, ma anche tutti i partecipanti per averci messo impegno, disponibilità e simpatia. Abbiamo avuto un magnifico weekend e fatto un bel passo nella direzione del miglioramento.

Spero davvero di rivedere tutti al mio ritorno a giugno per continuare a lavorare insieme

Ultima nota, per favore ricordate che la collaborazione è l’unica via per il miglioramento e vincere non è l’obiettivo, ma la conseguenza di duro e metodico lavoro.
